2DAYS 1NIGHT BAKO NATIONAL PARK Telok Limau Trek & Camp

With its rainforest, abundant wildlife, jungle streams, waterfalls, interesting plant life, secluded beaches, panoramic rocky shoreline, bizarre rock formations and extensive network of trekking trails, Bako National Park offers visitors and excellent introduction to the rainforest and coastline of Borneo. Bako may not have an instantly recognisable star attraction, but there can be very few places in the world that pack so much natural beauty into such a limited area, all just 37km from Kuching. Its accessibility – its sheer range of attractions and activities have make Bako one of the most popular parks in Sarawak.

Gazetted in 1957, Bako is Sarawak’s oldest National Park, covering an area of 2,727hectares at the tip of the Muara Tebas peninsula. It is one of the smallest national park in Sarawak, yet one of the most interesting, as it contains almost every type of vegetations found in Borneo. The well-maintained network of nature trails – from easy forest strolls to full-day jungle treks – allows visitors to get out most of this unique environment.

Day 01    KUCHING / BAKO HQ / TELUK LIMAU TREKKING AND CAMPING  (Packed Lunch/Dinner)

Early morning pick up from your accommodation then proceed for Bako National Park – the oldest yet one of the smallest in Sarawak, covers an area of 27.27sq km. Transfer for 30minutes by road from Kuching to Kampung Bako Jetty Terminal. From here, visitors must take a 25-minutes boat ride thru river and coastal sea to get to the park and you will be served with the very stunning view of legendary Mount Santubong and appetizing view of rock formation in the park. This Bako National Park is accessible and its ideal size makes it suitable for day trip or you may choose for overnight trip.  The park have a very diversity for a and fauna is a home to the rare proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaques, mouse deer and some 150 species of birds. About 7 types of Tropical Rainforest vegetations found in Borneo can be seen here. Facilities include accommodations, a canteen, a shop and a visitor’s information centre.

As soon as you reach Bako National Park, proceed trekking to Teluk Limau trail, one of the most challenging trail in this park. The Teluk Limau trail is a long distance trail, takes 6 or 7 hours from the park HQ to the small beach at Teluk Limau. You will pass through rich rainforest, scrub land and swamp forest, cross small streams and climb a number of hilly sections affording excellent views of the whole Muara Tebas peninsula. You will camp at Teluk Limau for overnight.

Day 02     TELUK LIMAU / BAKO HQ / KUCHING (Breakfast/Lunch)

Wake up in the morning and you may explore the surrounding before a boat pick you up for an excellent cruise along the South China Sea line to see the beautiful and interesting various rock formations that are also one of Bako National Park attraction.

Arrive Bako HQ, explore the trail inside the HQ before proceed for boat ride back to Bako jetty for journey back to Kuching.

DAY 01  KUCHING AIRPORT/CITY TOUR/HERITAGE WALK /HOTEL

Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching(flight ticket ownself arrangement-suggestion to use morning/afternoon arrival flight). Upon arrival, meet at Kuching International Airport. Then proceed for a tour of Kuching City. The brief reminiscence of once upon a time beginning in 1841 Kuching was a fabled place of romance ruled by the White Rajahs for 100 years. It has changed with time and declared a city in 1988. Places of interest include: Visiting the renowned Sarawak Museum; a drive passing by the gigantic Cat Monument; a glimpse of the Kuching South City Hall; then driving through China Town; the business centre – “Golden Triangle of Kuching”; Sarawak’s oldest Taoist Temple and award-winning Catholic Church, back to the city passing through Malay Village; old State Mosque (with 5 golden domes); then ending at the spectacular Kuching Waterfront where most of the pre-colonial buildings are situated. From Kuching Waterfront proceed for a Heritage Walk at Carpenter Street then to Main Bazaar for souvenir hunting and pass through Waterfront and take a ‘sampan’ small boat ride to cross river to Fort Margherita.

After that Check-in at preferred Kuching City hotel.

DAY 02   SEMENGGOH  ORANG UTAN/SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE  (B)

Breakfast at hotel.

The Journey – Transfer from Kuching to Orang Utan Semenggoh Wildlife Centre will take approximately 1 hour. The journey will pass through the beautiful limestone formation scenic view, as well as the countryside view, mountain range, palm oil estate, paddy field & etc. Enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way you will visit Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where you can see the Orang Utans in the wild. Walk through the scenic forest reserve to the feeding platform and see the Orang Utans swaying from branch to branch as they come down for feeding. This is a very unforgetful moments to get in close sight with the Orang Utans.  After Orang Utan Tour proceed to Sarawak Cultural Village – Touted as a living museum, this is an award-winning attraction located at the foothills of the legendary Mount Santubong, about 35km from Kuching, also the host for annually World Rainforest Musical Festival. It’s showcasing the longhouses of the Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu, Penan Hut, Melanau Tall House, Malay traditional House, and Chinese Farm House. Take a stab at using the blowpipe, the most traditional of hunting weapons than sway to the magical rhythms of the ethnics traditional cultural show at the end of the visit.

DAY 03    BAKO NATIONAL PARK DAYTRIP  (B / L)

After breakfast, proceed for a scenic drive this morning brings you to Bako Fishing Village Jetty where an exciting boat ride takes you to marvel at the abundant natural beauty of Sarawak’s most popular National Park with 7 vegetations. Trek along the Teluk Pandan Kecil trail (2.5hrs one way) to see the famous Sea Stack. See if you can spot wildlife in its natural surroundings including the proboscis monkeys, the monitor lizards, bearded pigs, silver leaf monkeys and more than one hundred species of birds along the trail. The stunning tropical rainforest ranges from the mangrove swamp forest to kerangas (Heath Forest) to cliff and beach vegetations. Exotic plants found along the trails include the several species of pitcher plants and wild orchids. You may end your trekking at a beautiful secluded swimming beach. Return in the late evening to Kuching City.

DAY 04     KUCHING AIRPORT/MULU   (B / L / D)

Breakfast at your hotel.

The rest of the day is yours until time for check out and pick up for transfer to Kuching Airport for your flight departure to MULU(Kuching-Mulu flight available on Tuesday-Friday-Sunday only).

Arrive Mulu airport, meet your guide and transfer to your choice of accommodation, en-route lunch at Sg. Pala Restaurant. After lunch we proceed by van to Park HQ for a visit to Deer and Lang’s Cave. We trek along the plant walk (3 km) through the rainforest. Explore the largest cave passage in the world- DEER CAVE and LANG’S CAVE. Relax at the open air observatory for an opportunity witness the phenomenon exodus of BATS out of the caves, spiralling high overhead and ascend to the sky where they will search for food. We then returned to the Park and transfer to your accommodation for overnight.

DAY 05     MULU CAVES   (B / L / D)

Breakfast; then take a morning long tail boat ride to visit Batu Bungan Penan Settlement where you are able to purchase the local handicraft made by the Penan tribe Go by boat to the CAVE OF THE WINDS with is tall, slender stalagmites, then on to the source of the CLEARWATER RIVER, see the underground river and visit the dry passage of the LADY’S CAVE, and swim at the Clearwater Spring. After picnic lunch at the Clearwater Pavilion, continue your journey by long tail boat to Kuala Berar or Long Litut. The 8km trek is through beautiful rainforest and along the Litut River to Melinau Camp (Camp 5) where we stay overnight.

DAY 06      MULU PINNACLES  (B / L / D)

Early breakfast; begin the 2.4km steep trek to the Pinnacles viewpoint at 1750 m. Along this trail are many orchids, pitcher plants and tiny Tree Shrews foraging for food. The pinnacles ofMuluNational Park are a collection of 45 meter high, limestone needles that cling to the side of Gunung Api (Volcano). The hike to the viewpoint overlooking the pinnacles is a tough and challenging mountain climb. However, trekkers are rewarded with a spectacular view of a silver-grey forest of stone, poking up through the surrounding jungle. Return to Camp 5 for a refreshing swim and another overnight stay.

DAY 07       HEADHUNTERS’ TRAIL   (B / L / D)

After breakfast, walk through lowland forest. The Headhunters’ Trail to Terikan River, then boat down to the Terikan River and Medalam Rivers to Bala Lasong Longhouse. When head-hunting was as its height, a hundred years ago, Kayan war parties from the Baram River made their way through the Mulu area to attack Murut longhouse and Chinese farmers along the Limbang River Paddling their war canoes up the Melinau River to the Melinau Gorge, they dragged them 3 km overland to the headwaters of the Terikan River, a tributary of the Limbang. The “Kayan Road” – a 4m wide trail with poles laid across it to facilitate dragging the boats has disappeared without trace, but you can still see the canal thy dug around Batu Rikan, where the Terikan river goes through a cave the hill. Overnight at the Iban Longhouse.

DAY 08       KUALA MENDAMIT / BRUNEI CITY TOUR / HOTEL   (B / L)

After breakfast at the longhouse, hence by boat to Kuala Mendamit then overland transfer to Brunei then proceed for Brunei City Tour – on the way, sightseeing along the oil town of Seria & Kuala Belait. Upon reaching Bandar Seri Begawan/Proceed tour with visit to local open Market called “Tamu”. Here Bruneian still visits local traditional market for the daily needs, especially medical plant, ceremony item, herbs and etc. Interesting place to visit from Tamu; we continue to visit Tomb of Sultan Bolkiah which was once the most powerful sultan during the 14 century. Most Muslim will do prayer in the tomb stone. A short walk will bring us to Sultan Sharif Tomb stone, the 3 rd Sultan of Brunei who is the direct descendent of Prophet Mohammad. Sultan Sharif Ali built the first mosque of Borneo and spread Islam to whole of Borneo and Philippine. After that we visit to Brunei Museum to see the private collection of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah vast collect of Islam Art and lifestyle of Brunei Malay & History; from Brunei Museum en-route lunch and after that visit the Royal Regalia where both Royal Chariot of Brunei Sultan and replica of Istana Nurul Iman and many gift given to Brunei Sultan on display. Then proceed to Water Village take photo stop at Istana Nurul Iman – The largest Residential Palace in the world. Before check in to Brunei hotel, we will stop at the Mall Gadong for those who like to do some shopping.

DAY 09      SERASA FERRY TERMINAL / LABUAN / KOTA KINABALU CITY TOUR  (B / D )

Breakfast at hotel then proceed in the early morning and transfer to SERASA FERRY TERMINAL for ferry to Labuan on board (depart time at 0830am). You will be arrive Labuan estimated time at 0930am. Proceed embark on another ferry to Kota Kinabalu depart at 1000am.

Arrive Kota Kinabalu Terminal at estimated time 1300pm, our representative will meet and greet you there and proceed for Kota Kinabalu City tour, observe a bird’s view of Kota Kinabalu from the Signal Hill, a photo stop at the MenaraTun Mustapha Building, KK City Mosque and Chinese Temple. Then, proceed to the Heritage Village and Sabah State Museum (close on every Friday) and the Tanjung Aru Beach. Cultural Dance Dinner will be served at Kampung Nelayan Restaurant. Overnight at preferred hotel.

DAY 10        ISLAND HOPPING – SAPI ISLAND    (B / BBQ LUNCH / D)

After breakfast at hotel. Then, proceed to jetty for 15 or 20 minutes boat transfer to Sapi Island, the most beautiful island in Kota Kinabalu. Sapi is popularly known of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park’s island being the 2nd largest and fairly popular for snorkeling. Spend the day for your own leisure: swimming, snorkeling and just laze yourself or suntan at the white sandy beach. Short and simple trails are available for your own option if you wish. A sumptuous BBQ will be served for you to enjoy your lunch on the island. After lunch, free leisure and transfer back to Kota Kinabalu. Dinner will be served at local restaurant. Overnight at Kinabalu Daya hotel/similar class.

A Day with Irrawaddy Dolphin and Turtle Island

Rough Itinerary:

0730 hrs    -   Meet and greet at your hotel lobby. Proceed transfer to Santubong jetty.

0830 hrs    -   Proceed for Morning Dolphin Cruise in search of the shy and ellusive mammals at the Santubong river mouth and then to South China Sea(subject to weather and your luck). After that, proceed cruising to the Turtle Island. As you arrive at the island, you may put your things and mingle at the seashore and practice your skill of snorkelling with our coordinator before proceed to the open sea for Snorkelling trip(at your own risk ) to see abundance of beautiful corals around the island.

DAY 01   KUCHING CITY TOUR / HERITAGE WALK  (Dinner)

1600hrs… Heritage walking Tour to begins from Waterfront & take a ride on the Tambang (water taxi) to the famous homemade Sarawak Layer Cake. The journey end with guest takes photo at our famous Cat Statue in middle the road between Grand Margherita Hotel and Riverside Majestic Hotel.

This is the very authentic and very well-preserved bidayuh longhouse, which is home to dozens of families under one roof. You can see the unique structure verandah is totally made of bamboo. This journey offers colourful glimpses into the lifestyles of Bidayuh natives which known as the very graceful natives and are the excellent farmers. They are also a thriving tribal community where you can meet and interact with the residents, observe them going about their everyday tasks, and appreciate the superb quality of their traditional handicrafts. Visit the Pangah (skull house) and see among many other things the head trophies of headhunting from few hundred years ago.

Bidayuh Ethnic Lunch will be serving at the Longhouse.  After Lunch quickly change to your light clothing & swim-suit to prepare for a jungle and river activities. Be prepared to get really wet for the day before proceed for Farm Tour (subject to weather)– Start off Farm Tour with trekking in the tropical rainforest to see flora & fauna.  Although there are many you can see along the trail. You will also pass some farms that plant various types of crops such as vegetables, fruits, pepper, sugarcane, padi and etc. With their local guide’s explanation about the things you see along the trail, you will start to understand about their surrounding jungle & how we use the natural jungle resources to compliment their daily needs plants and types of bamboo that use as the material to build their verandah. Experience walking on a bamboo bridge by your own an ancient technology to connect two sides of lands divided by a rivers or valley. On the way back to the Longhouse then go to river for Net fishing.  No special skills required, your guide will teach you on how to do it. Two persons need to hold both ends of the net and just drag it along the river. Your guide will be handling another type of net also purposely used for this kind of fishing.  Back to the Longhouse – at the end of your activity free at own leisure.

Bamboo Dinner- Rice and meats cooked in bamboo (Pansuh) is our world-famous way of cooking. You also can ask your host to cook the fish you’ve caught and the veggies you’ve collected. Dinner will be served soon later & you will get to try another different kind of traditional foods.  Soon after dinner, you will be entertained by the local musician who will showcase their skills and talent with all their traditional musical instruments (Bamboo Instrument). There will also be traditional cultural dance on show which will be performed by the local dancer. Guests who are interested to participate in the dance are most welcomed. Remember to ask for some local rice wine “Tuak” (Local Rice-Wine)

After The Show – If you still have enough energy after the long day, You can either choose to rest for the long day activities or you may chit-chatting with the host & the local here about common topics while drinking beers or our local rice wine. The musician is always there to teach you on how to play the bamboo instrument or listen to folktales about our longhouse

DAY 03   SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE / DAMAI BEACH RESORT  (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

After Breakfast check out and proceed for Sarawak Cultural Village Tour (theme as the living museum) situated at the foot of the legendary Mt. Santubong at the edge of the South China Sea. Explore the “Live” replicas of the 7 representative houses: Chinese Farm House, Malay Stilted House, Melanau Tall House, Penan Hut and Longhouses of the Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu. Try the Village’s delicious cookies, try your hands on their delicate craftwork and feel their warm hospitality. Get entertained with a 45mins spectacular cultural dance presentation by the various ethnic people of Sarawak at the Village Theater.
